The Nigeria Army has dismissed the soldier who allegedly raped a female student of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State.

The soldier, identified as Lance Corporal Sunday Adelola, attached to the 32 Artillery Brigade, has subsequently been handed him over to the police for prosecution.

He was alleged to have raped a 300 level student of the Department of Religious and African Studies of AAUA at a military checkpoint while she was returning from school along Ikare Akoko-Akungba Akoko Road last week. The student was allegedly forced to alight from a commercial bus, by him.

He allegedly dragged the victim into a cubicle at the back of checkpoint, where she was allegedly assaulted sexually.

The earlier report had stated that student was gang-raped but it was gathered that the investigation of the Army revealed that only one of the soldiers committed the offence.

Brigadier General Zakari Abubakar, the Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade Akure, had promised to transfer the case to the police after the conclusion of their investigation into the incident.

Femi Joseph, Spokesman for the State Police Command, who confirmed the development, said the suspect would soon be arraigned.

“I can confirm to you that the soldier has been handed over to us, he will soon be arraigned.”
