A cross-section of Nigerians have reacted after Amaju Pinnick, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), on Wednesday snubbed Gernot Rohr, the Head Coach of Super Eagles, during the Bronze medal presentation of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Super Eagles clinched the third place of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, thanks to a 1-0 win over Tunisia on Wednesday night at the Al Salam Cairo Stadium.
Odion Ighalo, who now has five goals at the tournament, netted the only goal in the third minute.
However, during the medal presentation after the match, Pinnick allegedly snubbed Rohr, as the Franco-German tactician walked towards the podium, Pinnick did not shake hands with the coach like the other dignitaries but simply looked away and walked past the coach.
This development has since generated reactions from Nigerians online as majority of them have now described Pinnick’s action as ‘unprofessional’.
Some reactions on Twitter:
@wolexis, “NFF President Amaju Pinnick snubbed Gernot Rohr’s handshake during the medal presentation. Irrespective of whatever issues ongoing, that’s very very unprofessional.”
@apaseayomi, “Amaju Pinnick finally disgraced us in public. No matter the differences you both have, how can you ignore the National Team coach like this. You are the image of our football and you embarrassed us badly. Maybe it’s really time for you to go Pinnick. No re-election for him.”
