Host, France on Monday evening piped the Super Falcons of Nigeria 1-0 in the last group to put the Nigerians in suspense over their qualification for the round of sixteen in the on-going 2019 FIFA Women World Cup, as one of the best losers.
The result means the Falcons ended the round with three points, having won one match (against South Korea) and lost two to Norway and France.
The Falcons put up a spirited effort in their last group match and kept a clean slate until Wendie Renard converted a penalty in the 79th minute, after Ngozi Ebere was shown a red card (after a second yellow card).
Renard missed the first kick, but referee booked goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie for steeping her foot outside the line, and ordered that the penalty be re-taken.
