The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced 160 and above as this year’s national minimum cut-off mark for admission into public universities.

The decision was reached on Tuesday at the 19th policy meeting on admissions to tertiary institutions in Nigeria, held at the Bola Babalakin auditorium, Gbongan, Osun state.

The policy meeting, which was presided by Isaq Oloyede, JAMB registrar, and attended by other stakeholders in the education sector, also approved 140 as minimum score for admission into private universities in the country.

The minimum UTME score approved for admission into public polytechnics is 120, while 110 was approved for private polytechnics.

For colleges of education, 100 and above was approved as the cut-off marks.

The UTME is scored on a total of 400.

At the meeting, December 19, was approved for the closure of admission into public universities, while February 15, 2020 for private universities.

Oloyede also said that admission into all universities would be conducted on central admission processing system (CAPS).

He said JAMB is not responsible for the fixing of cut-off marks for tertiary institutions but rather a consensus between the institutions and stakeholders at the policy meeting.

Oloyede said institutions cannot fix cut-off marks below what the stakeholders decided at the policy meeting.

The exam body had earlier cautioned candidates to beware of rumours that the board had released its official cut-off mark.
