The Bayelsa State Government has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reshedule the state’s governorship election slated for November 2, 2019.
The request was made by Gboribiogha Jonah, Deputy Governor of the state when he led a delegation of the state government on a courtesy visit to INEC head office in Abuja on Tuesday.
Jonah said the request was being made because the proposed date of the election clashes with the state’s annual thanksgiving.
He expressed difficulty in changing the date for the annual thanksgving which according to him is backed by law.
Mahmood Yakubu, INEC chairman, said the commission would meet and deliberate on the demand.
