Alhaji Liman Ibrahim, on Tuesday was officially decorated as the new Controller General of Federal Fire Service by the Federal Ministry of Interior.
Abdulrahman Dambazau, the Minister of Interior, who performed the investiture, explained that the elevation of Ibrahim was through a rigorous exercise. He congratulated the new Fire Chief for his patience during this period.
“Seven of you started this race but I must say I appreciate your patience during the rigorous screening and exercise to get to where you are today,” he said.
Dambazau urged the new CG to embark on aggressive education of the public on fire prevention and control measures.
“Ensure to educate Nigerians on the prevention of fire incidents in their environments.
“Also, in cases of fire incidents the public should know how to control fire.
“I know that these areas are not new to you but they are just a reminder on how to win the confidence of the public,” the minister said.
He also thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for his support and approval of the new fire service Controller General.
However, Dambazau noted that paucity of funds to acquire needed equipment is a major challenge of the service.
Al-Hassan Yakmut, the Secretary, Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board (CDFIPB),at the ceremony explained that Ibrahim was the second Fire Controller to go through the rigorous appointment process before attaining the position.
Ibrahim, was before his appointment the Assistant Controller General in charge of Policy, Regulatory and Inspectorate.
“He was, at one time, with the Federal Capital Territory FCT Fire Service before his redeployment to the Federal Fire Service,” Yakmut said.
Hon. Ibrahim Lada, who represented the Governor of Nigeria State at the event, urged Ibrahim to prove himself worthy of the appointment and also to upgrade the Federal Fire Service as he single handedly did in Niger State.
