The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have picked up a ticket to the 2019 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Brazil and the semis of the ongoing African U-17 Nations Cup in Tanzania with a 1-0 defeat of Angola on Wednesday.
Olakunle Olusegun netted from the spot in the 21st minute after an Angolan defender handled the ball in the vital area to give the Manu Garba-tutored-side its second win at the ongoing tournament.
The young Nigerians battled the Angolans right from the commencement of hostilities as both sides had chances to net the opening goal of the contest. Despite several scoring opportunities, the Eaglets failed to convert and went into the break on a goal-advantage.
In the second stanza, the Eaglets upped their game as they went in search of the second goal, but poor coordination in the final quarter robbed them of numerous scoring chances.
With five minutes to the hour mark, the Angolans paid for their physical play when one of them, Gege was sent-off for a second bookable offence, meaning the Southern African nation played out the remaining 35 minutes with 10-men.
Angola substituted Cisco with Maestro while Nigeria brought in Ibraheem Jabaar for Olatomi Olaniyan as the two nations tried to change their tactical play.
The match witnessed catalogue of misses as the Eaglets failed to convert several chances. Not even the introduction of Peter Agba for Wisdom Ubani could stop the Eaglets from missing other scoring opportunities. ocked0 Light Li
