An explosion at the Practising School in Obinze, in the Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, caused panic in the area as residents ran for safety.
The school was being used by a church, Jesus Disciple Fellowship, as a worship centre in the community. The explosion destroyed one of the buildings on the premises of the institution.
Eye witnesses said the explosion was as a result of a bomb, which was planted on a wall in the school. Some said when they came for services at the school, they noticed that the wall of the hall where they worship was tampered with.
“Out of curiosity, we started making findings and we later saw a rope covered with pipes and buried in the ground, which was connected to the wall. When the rope was touched, the hidden device exploded,” an eye witness said.
Orlando Ikeokwu, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, explained that no life was lost, adding that the substance was an explosive ordinance.
He said that the Explosive Ordinance Department of the command had condoned off the area.
Ikeokwu, however further called on the residents of the state not to panic. tPos-1,
