National Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Saturday, appealed to Nigerians to reject the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its candidates and vote massively for the candidates of APC in the forthcoming election.
Tinubu, addressing the mammoth crowd of supporters at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, venue of the party’s Presidential campaign, said that the opposition in 16 years failed to put Nigeria on a pedestal of growth despite enormous resources.
He said the Buhari administration had done a lot with meagre funds and resources just in four years.
“Today is a demonstration of democracy and it is not all about President Muhammadu Buhari. Lagos is very sure for voting Buhari and APC largely in the next election.
“All the common men belong to this economy, they must share part of the democracy, we must improve the infrastructure, that is the only way, we must create jobs,” Tinubu said.
He said Buhari, in his campaign in 2015, made promises which he had fulfilled since he assumed office.
Tinubu noted that if the opposition had been dedicated to power generation in their 16-year rule, investors that left the country before 2015 would have remained in the country.
“When I was governor of Lagos State for eight years, I introduced industrial power generation system.
“Obasanjo and Atiku opposed it, I went to court and with the help of Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, we won.
” Please do not vote for him (Atiku)”.
Tinubu called on Nigerians to “dump Obasanjo in the dustbin”. He accused Obasanjo of being behind the greatest election rigging in the history of the country.
“Obasanjo came and we taught them that there is no other way for business evolution and revolution without steady power supply. I introduced independent power generation. What did he do? He and Atiku opposed it. I went to court and Osinbajo was my lawyer. I won in court and we started generating 300MW; the first state to do it. Imagine 1999, if Nigeria had made that dedication to electricity generation, you will not see Dunlop, Michelin move out of this country. Look at our roads; look at the vehicular density of Lagos alone. And they call one man Obi somewhere in one party. He said he will create jobs. He has not been able to tell us how we can make brake pads, wheel spanner on our own for those vehicles. And he said, maybe we should extend the port to Benin Republic, so that we can clear our cargo faster. I call that one ‘container economy, Obi China’.
“Who sent Michelin out of this country? PDP right? Who got rid of Dunlop Manufacturing Company? Who sent Siemens out of this country? They want to take that money and the business of this country, back to their friends in Europe and America again.
“I want to sympathise with our friends, our foreign observers. You’re welcome. Observe what you need to observe, write your report in peace and go home. This is our democracy. America is still questioning its own democracy. We’re watching CNN; Trump and China, Trump and Russia. Interference in the largest African democracy is what we are saying. G-20, in year 2003, asked Umaru Shehu Yar’Adua of blessed memory, ‘what are you going to do with the election in Nigeria?’ He said: ‘The election that brought me as president of this country is flawed and I will reform it’. Is that not correct? Who conducted that election? Obasanjo is the greatest election rigger in this country. He’s an expired meat. Dump him in the dustbin. Forget Obasanjo,” Tinubu said.
Also present at the event were President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Adams Oshiomhole, the APC National Chairman, as well as governors and other party leaders.
Tinubu also sensitised the people on how to cast their votes on election day, saying “today, I want to teach the opposition a lesson”.
” Vote appropriately in the ballot paper for the APC and avoid your vote being void.
” Use your index finger instead of your thumb, and ensure you wait till the votes are counted.
Earlier, Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State reiterated the commitment of the state to unalloyed support of President Buhari
“We appreciate the President in the last three and half years. The 2019 election is not about tribe and religion, but it is all about job , economy and infrastructure.
“In Lagos, Airport road is making life comfortable for every Lagosian. PMB has refunded some of the money we used for projects in Lagos.
“We need to continue in that direction. PMB has created the ground work for growth”.
