The National Judicial Council (NJC) and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) are holding emergency meetings this week to discuss the controversial suspension of Walter Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The suspension on Friday followed an exparte order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal. Onnoghen is facing trial at the tribunal, after he was charged for the alleged offence.
Jonathan Taidi, the NB’s National Secretary, said the association’s National Executive Committee is meeting on Monday.
The NJC’s meeting is expected to hold on Tuesday but it is not yet clear whether it would be chaired by Onnoghen or the acting CJN, Ibrahim Mohammed.
The NBA’s National Executive Council meetingis expected to be attended by its National Officers, Past Presidents, Past General Secretaries, Branch Chairmen, Branch Secretaries, Branch NEC Representatives, Chairmen and Secretaries of Sections.
The NBA said its meeting is expected to discuss what it described as the: “Purported Suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon Mr Justice Walter S C Onnoghen and any Other Business.” �z,
