Cristiano Ronaldo recorded a penalty kick miss on Monday as his team, Juventus trashed bottom-placed Chievo.
The penalty loss happened with the Serie A leaders already two goals up in the 52nd minute. Ronaldo’s spot kick, which was awarded to the Turin side after Mattia Bani handled the ball, was brilliantly saved by Stefano Sorrentino in goal for Chivo.
In spite of the miss, Ronaldo still remains the joint top scorer in Serie A with 14 goals. Jeve’s goa; in the match were scored by Douglas Costa, Emre Can and Daniele Rugani, which incidentally were the trio’s first goals of the season.
The win restored Juve a nine-point lead over Napoli after the Naples side reduced the gap following its 2-1 win over Lazio on Saturday. Juventus have 56 points from a possible 60 as they chase an eighth straight title, while bottom side Chievo have eight points.
Chievo held out for only 13 minutes until Costa burst through the Chievo midfield and slipped a shot between two defenders from the edge of the area. Another moment of individual inspiration created the second goal just before the break as Paulo Dybala ran at the centre of the defence and slipped the ball to Can, who then fired a low shot past Sorrentino for his first goal since joining from Liverpool.
The match was a frustrating on for Ronaldo as he missed two other scoring chances after his penalty miss.
Juventus’ third goal was a header from Rugani from Federico Bernardeschi’s free kick in the 84th minute. ASUU St
